Carrie Anne Moss - The Matrix

Carrie Anne Moss - The Matrix signed VHS cover

"No? Let me tell you what I believe. I believe that Morpheus means more to me than he does to you. I believe if you are really serious about rescuing him, you are going to need my help. And since I am the ranking officer on this ship, if you don't like it... I believe you can go to hell. Because you're not going anywhere else. Tank, load us up."

Matt Damon - Syriana

Matt Damon - Syriana signed DVD cover

"Great. How much for my other kid?"

"Beirut, it's great. It's like the Paris of the Middle East."

Matt Damon as proved to be a likeable actor, probably coming to most people's attention with Good Will Hunting (which he also co-wrote and won an Oscar with Matt Damon) before being the titular Saving Private Ryan. Since then he's appeared in the enjoyable Ocean's movies, and in my opinion made the James Bond films rethink what they where doing with the Bourne movies, all this and a lot more in an impressive list of credits.

Aida Turturro - Angie

Aida Turturro - Angie signed 10x8

Richard Kind - Spin City

Richard Kind - Spin City signed 10x8

"You know, I've been allergic to cats all my life, but at the pet morgue, nothing. Turns out I'm not allergic to dead cats."

Loved Richard Kind on this show, it was a pretty fun show (Mostly the Michael J. Fox years). Richard Kind, along with the likes of Alan Ruck helped me like this a really underrated ensemble.

Dennis Hopper

Dennis Hopper - 12x8 signed magazine page

Dennis Hopper as had a long and storied career including roles in movies as varied as Rebel Without a Cause, Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now, Speed and Waterworld.

Updated on 29th of May 2010, I am sad to report that Dennis Hopper lost his long-term battle with cancer.

His scene with with Christopher Walken in True Romance is an instant classic, watch it below if you don't know what I'm talking about...

John Hurt - Captain Corelli's Mandolin

John Hurt - Captain's Corelli's Mandolin signed movie review notes

"When you fall in love, it is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake, and then it subsides. And when it subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots are become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the desire to mate every second of the day. It is not lying awake at night imagining that he is kissing every part of your body. No... don't blush. I am telling you some truths. For that is just being in love; which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over, when being in love has burned away. Doesn't sound very exciting, does it? But it is!"

This is the second John Hurt autograph in my collection, like I said on the previous entry for Hurt, he stars in one of my favourite movies - The Elephant Man.

Chris Columbus - Nine Months

Chris Columbus - Nine Months signed movie review notes

Nine Months won't go down in history as the best film Chris Columbus did (it's fairly harmless fun in my eyes).

Among some of the films he's directed include the first two Harry Potter movies, Mrs. Doubtfire, the first two Home Alone movies and Adventures in Babysitting (and the woeful Rent which I hate!)

Best of all his wrote the scripts to two of my favourite films of the 1980s (and pretty much all time) - The Goonies and Gremlins! (it's kind of unfair to leave out Young Sherlock Holmes because that was also a fab 80s movie!)

13 months later...

Hey this post is not strictly autograph related but it's sort of related (or not at all depending which way you look at it).
Me with Matthew Lewis in March 2008
Me with Matthew Lewis in April 2009

Notice the difference... I'm thinner, I like to call March 2008 Fathead Rob and April 2009 Less Fathead Rob, but anyway some little bit of congratulations for me to have my weight going in the right direction. My hairline is still a issue though!

Sonny Landham - Predator

Sonny Landham - Predator signed laserdisc

"The only way outta here is that valley that leads to the east. But I wouldn't wish that on a broke-dick dog."

Obtained in person at Collectormania Midlands 3.

The Dirty Dozen

The Dirty Dozen - Yugoslavian signed poster

Signed by...
  • Ernest Borgnine
  • George Kennedy
both in person at Autographica 13.

I met George Kennedy first, very friendly and very respectable, you could tell he was a touch on the deaf side though. Ernest Borgnine was brilliant, into his 90s now and still full of life.

It's still hard to believe I met two Hollywood legends like this within like half an hour of each other. These two where also two of the most popular guests at the event.

I just need to get a frame for this because I know exactly where this will be getting hung up in my house!
Ernest Borgnine signature

"This war was NOT started for your private gratification, and you can be damned sure it's not being run for your personal convenience, either!"

Ian McNeice - Top Secret!

Ian McNeice - Top Secret! signed Belgian poster

Ian McNeice was Saturday's free autograph and was such an awesome person, when he saw my poster he let out the greatest belly laugh ever and said to me "my entire career is flashing in front of me" and he asked if it was okay that he took a photo of me with the poster. He was also kind enough to pose with the poster for my camera. Obtained at Collectormania Midlands 3.

I'll be putting up a picture of it framed on the wall in my upstairs hallway at a later date...

Harry Potter

Harry Potter - signed 2008 Annual

Signed by...
  • Matthew Lewis
  • James Payton
in person at Collectormania Midlands 3. I brought the annual from Home Bargains for 29p after I looked in the inside pages and thought it would be great to get Harry Potter autographs on. This is my second time meeting Matthew Lewis and like the first time, I left with the impression of having met a cool guy, James Payton was also a decently cool guy as well.

Watch this space for hopefully more future additions all over this annual.

Titanic: Deluxe Collector's Edition

Titanic - Deluxe Collector's Edition signed DVD cover

Signed by...
  • David Warner
  • Jonathan Hyde
both in person at Collectormania Midlands 3.

I went to Jonathan Hyde first who was cool to meet, he asked me if I was getting David Warner to sign the DVD aswell and he made a joke that he should sign his signature really massive so David Warner wouldn't have anyway to sign.

I think I went straight to David Warner after Jonathan Hyde, I remember telling him what Jonathan Hyde said and it made him laugh and asked if it was alright he signed his signature under Jonathan Hyde so he could let the drama queen have top billing!

I originally intended to get a Titanic laserdisc signed, which I'd brought from Ebay but it didn't arrive until I was already in Birmingham, so this DVD was my second choice.
Me and Jonathan Hyde

"
"The press knows the size of Titanic. Now I want them to marvel at her speed. We must give them something new to print! This maiden voyage of Titanic must make headlines!"

"But this ship can't sink!"

Me and David Warner

"It's interesting. The young lady slipped so suddenly and you still had time to remove your jacket and your shoes."

The trailer for you...

Madeline Smith - Theatre of Blood

Madeline Smith - Theatre of Blood signed DVD

I met Madeline Smith at Collectormania Midlands 3. Madeline Smith came across as very posh in the best possible way, she seem to take a little bit of a shine to me (not in a fancy way I mean the other way), maybe it was my politeness (or the fact I brought her something none Bond to get signed, who knows???

Lenora Crichlow - Sugar Rush Series Two

Lenora Crichlow - Sugar Rush Series Two signed DVD

Lenora Crichlow - Sugar Rush Series One

Lenora Crichlow - Sugar Rush Series One signed DVD

Lenora Crichlow was great, much more beautiful in person then on screen and her personality was lovely.

a fan made video for Sugar Rush, decent song too!

Ke Huy Quan - The Goonies

Ke Huy Quan - The Goonies signed Collector's Magazine

"Hey I've got a great idea you guys! Slick shoes!"

"Pinchers of Peril... saved by my Pinchers of Peril!"

"Data's okay! Data's quite tired of falling and Data's tired of skeletons!"

Awesome! I've finally met one of the Goonies, this was at Collectormania Midlands 3, this was an incredibly rare signing opportunity (apparently Showmasters who ran the event have been trying to get him for years). Quan was a great guy and the way he looks and sounds showed he hadn't changed a damn bit in nearly 25 years.

and because I want to spoil you: The best of Data!

George Lazenby - On Her Majesty's Secret Service

George Lazenby - On Her Majesty's Secret Service signed DVD cover

"This never happened to the other fella!"

I can finally say I met a James Bond - On Her Majesty's Secret Service is in my top 10 favourite Bond films (possibly top 5). George Lazenby was fairly cool with a strong handshake. He didn't allow photos sadly. I met him at Collectormania Midlands 3.

Caroline Munro - Maniac

Caroline Munro - Maniac signed DVD cover

"There's no way you can possess someone forever. Even in a photograph, there's no way."

I obtained this signature in person at Autographica 13. Now onto the promised Caroline Munro description. She was an absolute delight, When she saw my Maniac DVD cover she asked me my opinion on it, I told her I loved it (the truth) and we got talking about the movie's star Joe Spinell, and we both agreed what such a wonderful underrated performer he was and she told me a few stories about him! (they worked together on three films in total). I had trouble with my camera and the lighting and she was amazingly patient while I tried to get it sorted.

The trailer (been warned it's not for the young uns)

Katy Manning - Eskimo Nell

Katy Manning - Eskimo Nell signed DVD cover

While most people who visited Katy Manning probably got something Doctor Who related, I had to get 70s British softcore comedy Eskimo Nell signed. She loved seeing this and even told me about filming scenes with Christopher Biggins who played her brother in the film and how they couldn't get through one particular take and how if they see each other now they always repeat one line from the film to each other.

some goodness from the film...

Joan Collins - Dynasty Season One

Joan Collins - Dynasty Season One signed DVD cover

I didn't originally plan to get Joan Collins autograph, but her assistant/husband notified me of a great deal and then I couldn't resist. She was pretty much just what I expected, not massively chatty or the like but not awful. She was one of two that didn't allow posed photos.

Caroline Munro - Star Crash

Caroline Munro - Star Crash signed 10x8

"So you see into the future. All these years you never told me. Think of all the trouble I might have avoided."

The only signed 10x8 I got while I was at the event(s), this was on the second time I met Caroline Munro. She was such a lovely person and I'll go into it more when it comes to the signed Maniac DVD cover.

Off to Birmingham...

Hello... In little over an hour I'll be on my way to Birmingham to go to Collectormania Midlands (shocking that Collectormania Midlands would be held in the midlands hey?) which is on Tomorrow and Sunday. I'm packed and dressed and ready to go, so seeya all in a couple of days...

Wednesday 15 April 2009

Emily Watson

Emily Watson - signed 10x8

Emily Watson is a great actress, making her movie debut with an astonishing performance in Breaking the Waves (1996). She's gone on to appear in Angela's Ashes, Punch-Drunk Love, The Proposition and Synecdoche, New York.

Deep Roy - Corpse Bride

Deep Roy - Corpse Bride signed 10x8

He's appeared in a lot of stuff, he'll be best recognized for playing all of the Oompa Lumpa's in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Other films include Big Fish (he's worked with Tim Burton four times so far), the underrated Freaked, Return to Oz and was Droopy McCool in Return of the Jedi.

Rebecca Romijn

Rebecca Romijn - signed 8x6

Wow it didn't take me long to get another Rebecca Romijn autograph did it??? This is the lesser of the two photos in my opinion (she's pictured here with ex-husband John Stamos)

Eugene Levy - The Man

Eugene Levy - The Man signed 12x8

While I haven't seen the film yet, I've heard terrible things about it, but to me I saw buying this as getting a Eugene Levy autograph at a very cheap price. To most people Eugene Levy will be associated with been Jim's dad in the American Pie movies (he evens appears in the direct to DVD sequels) but to me he's always gonna be a cast member from Canadian sketch show SCTV and his work with Christopher Guest on the films Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show and a Mighty Wind (he also wrote them with Guest).

On a SCTV note, he's the third former SCTV cast member I have the autograph of (John Candy and Joe Flaherty are the other two), none of them are on SCTV items though.

Doug Jones

Doug Jones - signed 10x8

Doug Jones as also worked on Pan's Labyrinth, Fantastic Four - Rise of the Silver Surfer (as The Silver Surfer), Tank Girl and Adaptation and played one of the Gentlemen in one of the best Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes ever (no easy task).
